Sr. Network/Systems Engineer

Employment: Contract (10-12-month Contract, Potential Conversion)

Workplace Environment: Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days WFH)

Location: Redondo Beach, CA

Compensation: $65-$73/hr

SUMMARY:

The Sr. Network/Systems Engineer will play a critical role in supporting and advancing complex test, lab, and production environments. This position is responsible for maintaining reliable network, compute, and physical infrastructure systems that enable high-performance engineering and operational workflows. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on experience with networking, systems administration, and hardware troubleshooting across multi-layered environments. They will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deploy infrastructure, optimize system performance, and ensure operational readiness. This role requires a strong technical foundation, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to operate in fast-paced, hardware-centric environments such as aerospace, manufacturing, or advanced engineering labs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support, maintain, and enhance infrastructure within laboratory, test, and engineering environments, ensuring consistent uptime and reliable system performance.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and optimize enterprise network environments including switching, routing, VLANs, subnetting, and associated network services.
  • Deploy and maintain physical infrastructure including equipment racks, structured cabling, fiber optics, and facility-level network buildouts.
  • Administer and support Linux and Windows systems, including installation, updates, hardening, and performance monitoring.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across hardware, systems, and network layers.
  • Configure and maintain Cisco networking equipment, including enterprise switches and related configurations.
  • Support virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware) and cloud environments such as AWS or Azure, as needed.
  • Implement and maintain infrastructure automation, configuration management, and secure architecture principles aligned with regulatory or NIST-based standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, operations, and IT teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and well-documented infrastructure solutions.
  • Produce clear technical documentation and communicate system changes, designs, and troubleshooting outcomes to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience supporting infrastructure, systems engineering, or laboratory/test environments.
  • Demonstrated networking expertise including switching, routing, VLANs, subnetting, and network troubleshooting.
  • Experience deploying physical infrastructure including racks, structured cabling, fiber optics, and facility network buildouts.
  • Experience administering Linux and/or Windows systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot across hardware, network, and systems layers.
  • Cisco networking experience required, including enterprise switch configuration and troubleshooting.

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience supporting aerospace, manufacturing, or hardware test environments.
  • Familiarity with deterministic or time-sensitive networking. a
  • Experience with VMware or similar virtualization platforms.
  • Experience supporting AWS and/or Azure environments.
  • Infrastructure automation or configuration management experience.
  • Understanding of secure architecture principles and regulated environments (e.g., NIST-aligned environments).
  • Strong technical documentation and cross-functional communication skills
